Why should I care about the North Carolina Court of Appeals?
The North Carolina Court of Appeals is the critical first level of appeal from the State's trial courts. The Court is comprised of fifteen judges, who hear cases in rotating panels of three. Court of Appeals judges in North Carolina hear both civil and criminal cases as well as appeals from administrative agencies. The North Carolina Court of Appeals examines these cases for errors in law and procedure.
N.C. Court of Appeal judges are elected state-wide in non-partisan elections and serve eight year terms. Each year the Court of Appeals considers well over 2000 cases. It is important that Court of Appeal judges be hardworking and have a broad range of judicial, legal and personal experience, like Judge Kristin Ruth.
Judge Kristin Ruth needs your help. How can you get involved?
The crowded November 2008 elections in North Carolina will feature races for President, United States Senate, United States House of Representatives, all North Carolina Council of State positions including Governor, and hundreds of other state and local races. The noise will be deafening and it will be difficult for candidates for the Court of Appeals to cut through. The key to this election will be direct voter contact. Judge Ruth needs your help reaching as many voters as possible.
