Judge Kristin Ruth to Run for NC Court of Appeals

Cary/New Hill - Judge Kristin Ruth has begun her run for the NC Court of Appeals, with a planned kickoff event at the historic Guess Ogle House in Cary. The kickoff will be hosted by Cary businesswoman Sheila Ogle. Judge Ruth is running for the seat presently held by Judge John Tyson, and she intends to participate in the Public Campaign Finance system.

Judge Ruth has been a District Court judge for Wake County since 1998, and was the senior partner in her law firm before being elected. Her recognitions include the NC Child Support Council's Service of Excellence Award, the American Business Women's Association's American Business Woman of the Year Award, and the Judge of the Year Award from the Federal Office of Child Support Enforcement. Judge Ruth serves on the boards for Carolina Dispute Settlement Services and Carolina Correctional Services, is a member of the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges and just completed a three-year term on the chief Justice's
Commission on Professionalism.

"My years of work as a trial judge have convinced me that we need fair, experienced appellate judges who understand not only the law, but the effect it has on the day to day lives of the people of North Carolina," Judge Ruth said. "I am looking forward to a successful campaign and to continuing to serve the people of North Carolina on the Court of Appeals."

Judge Ruth earned her law degree from Campbell University while working as a flight attendant for American Airlines. She is married to Lt. Col. John Preston Ruth, USMCR. They have one son, Kenan, 13.
